Certification
Certification Standards
IVCA sets rigorous, independently verified standards for Vital Code practice at every level.
IVCA certification is the internationally recognised benchmark for Vital Code practice. Our standards are designed to protect the public, uphold the profession, and ensure that every certified practitioner has demonstrated genuine competence through independent assessment.
IVCA does not deliver training. Our independence from training provision is what gives our certification its credibility. We evaluate competence — we do not sell courses.
Our certification framework defines four progressive tiers, each with published requirements covering training, supervised practice, competency assessment, and ethical commitment. Certification is never granted based on attendance alone — it requires independently verified evidence of professional readiness.
Certification Tiers
Four Levels of Professional Certification
Each tier represents a defined level of competence with clear, published requirements.
Foundation
Entry-level certification
For practitioners who have completed an approved Foundation programme through an IVCA Authorised Trainer. This tier marks the beginning of a structured pathway into professional Vital Code practice.
Requirements
- Completion of an IVCA-approved Foundation training programme
- Foundation-level competency assessment (administered by the Authorised Trainer)
- Signed ethical declaration
- Application through the IVCA portal with supporting evidence
Suitable For
- Emerging practitioners beginning their Vital Code journey
- Students who have completed Foundation-level training
- Professionals from related disciplines exploring Vital Code integration
Practitioner
Core professional certification
The core professional tier for practitioners who have demonstrated competence through supervised practice and independent assessment. This is the standard professional certification for active Vital Code practitioners.
Requirements
- Completion of an IVCA-approved Practitioner training programme (72 hours)
- Minimum 50 supervised practice hours documented and verified
- Competency assessment across core Vital Code techniques
- Documented case studies or reflective practice portfolio
- Signed ethical declaration and CPD commitment
Suitable For
- Active Vital Code practitioners working with clients
- Professionals seeking full professional registration on the IVCA register
Master
Advanced certification
For experienced practitioners with deep expertise and a demonstrable commitment to the development of the profession. Master-level certification recognises sustained excellence in practice and professional contribution.
Requirements
- Current Practitioner-level certification (minimum 2 years)
- Completion of an IVCA-approved Master training programme (72 hours)
- Extensive supervised and independent practice hours (cumulative)
- Advanced competency assessment across specialised techniques
- Reflective practice portfolio demonstrating professional growth
- Peer review and evidence of professional contribution (supervision, mentoring, or research)
- Signed ethical declaration
Suitable For
- Senior practitioners and supervisors
- Specialist Vital Code practitioners
- Those seeking eligibility to serve on IVCA assessment panels
Trainer
Highest tier — authorised to train others
The highest certification tier, reserved for practitioners authorised to deliver training programmes that prepare candidates for IVCA certification. Trainer status requires not only advanced practice competence but also demonstrated teaching capability and curriculum development skills.
Requirements
- Current Master-level certification (prerequisite)
- Approved training methodology and curriculum plan
- Demonstrated teaching qualification or equivalent experience
- Assessment competence (ability to evaluate candidate readiness)
- Supervised practice arrangements for training candidates
- Periodic reauthorisation review (every 3 years)
Suitable For
- Training providers and programme directors
- Educators delivering Vital Code curricula
- Master practitioners seeking to contribute to the next generation of professionals
How It Works
The Certification Process
A structured, evidence-based process with no shortcuts and no certifications granted without independent verification.
Train with an Authorised Provider
Complete a Vital Code training programme delivered by an IVCA Authorised Trainer. These providers have been independently evaluated against our educational standards for curriculum depth, teaching qualifications, and assessment rigour.
Meet the Published Criteria
Fulfil the requirements for your chosen tier: supervised practice hours, competency assessments, case studies, and ethical declarations. All criteria are publicly available so you know precisely what is expected.
Apply for Certification
Submit your application through the IVCA portal with all supporting evidence. Every application is reviewed independently by our Certification Panel. This is a genuine assessment of professional readiness — not a rubber stamp.
Join the Register & Maintain Standing
Once certified, you receive your IVCA digital credential and are added to the international register. Your credential must be renewed annually through continuing professional development.
Continuing Development
CPD Requirements
Certified practitioners must meet annual CPD requirements to maintain their credential and demonstrate ongoing professional competence.
Requirements differ by tier — and include a mandatory annual update course and, for higher tiers, supervised community practice hours.

{{CPD_HOURS_PRACTITIONER}} hours CPD per year, including supervised practice and annual update course.
Master
{{CPD_HOURS_MASTER}} hours CPD per year with advanced supervision and community practice requirements.
Trainer

Assessment
How Applications Are Assessed
Every application is reviewed independently by IVCA's Certification Panel. The process is transparent, fair, and based entirely on the published criteria for each tier.
The Review Process
- Evidence review — training records, practice logs, competency assessments, and ethical declarations are verified against published requirements
- Reference checks — supervisors and training providers may be contacted to confirm the accuracy of submitted evidence
- Panel decision — applications are approved, deferred (with a request for additional evidence), or declined with written feedback
If Your Application Is Declined
Applicants receive written feedback explaining the reasons for the decision. You may reapply once the identified gaps have been addressed. There is no limit on reapplications, and previously submitted evidence remains on file.
Appeal Process
If you believe a decision was made in error, you may submit a formal appeal within 30 days of notification. Appeals are reviewed by a separate panel that did not participate in the original decision.
